We All Need To Learn More About Domestic Abuse

Especially in the US, where our social safety net is full of massive, gaping, hideous holes. Here Margo Howard prints a letter which disagreed with some advice she had given to an abuse victim. It is a good reminder to refrain from making judgement.

I have myself heard from people experiencing abuse who do not want to divorce because the abuser could easily end up with court-mandated unsupervised time with the children. All kinds of terrible things happen in a system which needs fixing (but not slashing and burning...)

Incredible letter and I so agree with the anonymous woman that wrote it.
I have never been abused, nor in any way harmed or been in an abusive relationship. But I have gone through some hardships in life that I chose voluntarily. We are programmed to go through life in certain way. We are taught certain things, but most of how we handle life comes from ourselves. I know from experience that sometimes no matter how we try, we will find ourselves in similar situations over and over again. It is very intriguing to me. That doesn't mean that one can not change, but I love the way it was written in the letter; repeating ones mistakes doesn't reflect our capabilities to learn.
That the system fails to help those that find themselves in impossible situations is a worldwide problem.

Thank you for sharing this link.;))

Thanks, Beep! I thought, like Margo, that some women just "don't get it". Now I realize I am the one who didn't get it.

Georgie, thank you so much. It means a lot to me when anyone appreciates anything I do!

Protege and Keera I think I also have things to learn as well about different aspects of this issue...

About Me

I've travelled the distance from an Ivy League college to decades of enforced poverty--because I've needed to qualify for government health care in the U.S., since being diagnosed with lupus at the age of 23. I have a personal blog at http://beepbeep.livejournal.com that I've had so long I'm probably stuck with :) My other blogs are here on blogger...
